Today, I want to talk about two key elements that define the strengths of our offensive and defensive lines: the offensive line’s mastery of footwork and the defensive line’s skill with hand techniques. This is about more than just tactics; it’s about understanding the deeper aspects of our roles and the value of mastering our unique skills.
Offensive Linemen: Winning with Your Feet Your feet are your foundation. Great footwork is about balance, agility, and being in the right place at the right time. When you move with purpose and precision, you create opportunities for our team. It’s like John P. Strelecky said in ‘The Why Cafe’, “It’s not just about the goal, it’s about the journey to get there.” Each step you take on the field is part of that journey. Remember, your feet don’t just move you; they put you in position to move your opponent.
Defensive Linemen: Dominating with Your Hands Your hands are your tools to disrupt and control. Mastery of hand techniques – strikes, sheds, rips and grabs – gives you the power to break through barriers. It’s a bit like what Senn Delaney talks about in terms of shaping your own destiny. Your hands on the field are shaping the flow of the game, pushing it in our favor. Every hand movement is a chance to assert our will and dominate the course of the play.
For both linemen, this isn’t just about physical skills; it’s about character development, leadership, and understanding your ‘why’. Your role on the line is a metaphor for life. How you engage in every play, how you use your unique strengths, is about more than winning a game; it’s about growing as individuals and as a team.
So, linemen focus on these strengths. Offensive line, dance with your feet. Defensive line, command and dominate with your hands. Together, let’s bring our best to the field and beyond!
Keep pushing forward, Coach Kevin
